Salt for marine aquarium
Choose your marine aquarium salt
Factors to take into account
An interesting informative article for aquarists and public aquariums has just been published in the journal ZebrasO’mag. Journal specialized in marine aquariums and reefs, in Number 49.
Olivier Detournay draws our attention to the factors to take into account in order to choose his salt for reef aquariums.
Natural salts, resulting from the evaporation of seawater, and synthetic salts, produced by mixing all the basic components of seawater, are the two possibilities available in terms of salt production. For these two options, a large number of brands exist and each offer different solutions.
The choice of one type of salt at the expense of another questions the aquarists and public aquariums, who now prefer to recompose the seawater themselves. This is due to multiple reasons such as the deterioration of the quality of sea water according to the seasons, in a natural environment.
Therefore, the reflection when choosing a type of salt must be enriched by different factors. We are talking here about bacteria, pH, salt dehydration rate, and physico-chemical parameters. These are the elements that allow the aquarist to ask the right questions about the type of salt to use according to their use.
