Soft and hard corals
Soft and hard corals
We know how difficult it is to maintain corals even if you are an aquarist.
Some species are more or less easy to maintain.
Hard corals are particularly complicated to maintain over time in a reef aquarium. Numerous misadventures can occur such as bleaching or necrosis.
Hard corals are composed of a rigid structure. The maintenance of species in this category such as acropora, xenia, zoanthus, discosoma etc. requires special attention to the calcium and KH content of your aquarium.
Their well being is also due to the mixing and lighting which are two very impacting parameters.
You have understood it, maintaining soft corals is easier. Indeed, less constraints are required by this species. They are also called invasive corals. In their natural habitat, they position themselves first and wait for the arrival of hard corals.
In this case, it can happen that a competition is set up between the so-called soft and hard corals.
Soft corals can invade and hard corals can burn them.
Therefore, each category must have a comfortable space so as not to disturb the other.
To conclude, the cohabitation of soft corals with hard corals is not a happy one, but obviously it depends on your aquarium.
